Capturing that WOW moment in time!
Marg Smith, an artist based in Okotoks, Alberta, is inspired by the wonder and beauty of colour in the world. She paints in oils, often using the alla prima (wet-on-wet) technique, capturing spontaneous moments in subjects ranging from landscapes and farm animals to children, pets, and florals. Deeply influenced by life in western Canada, her work reflects the vibrancy of Alberta’s people, animals, and scenery. Marg continues to refine her craft through workshops with well-known Canadian and American artists.

The exhibition opens with a special Gala Night on Friday, February 20, from 4:00–9:00 pm. This ticketed evening offers a lively experience with food and drinks, live music, raffle prizes, and the opportunity to meet the artists and explore the studios in a vibrant, social atmosphere.
The exhibition continues on Saturday and Sunday with free public viewing at scheduled RSVP times (drop-ins are still welcome), welcoming friends, family, collectors, and the wider art community to experience the creative energy behind it.

Meet Me in My Space!
You’re warmly invited to visit my studio in Okotoks as part of the Calgary Artists’ Studio Tour with Toureka.
My work is rooted in the natural landscapes of Alberta — the wide skies, shifting light, and quiet spaces that stay with us long after we’ve left them. Working primarily with a wet-on-wet painting technique, I allow colour, movement, and intuition to guide each piece, creating layered surfaces that remain open, fluid, and responsive. Rather than depicting a specific place, my paintings aim to evoke memory — those fleeting impressions of land, weather, and atmosphere that feel both familiar and just out of reach.
During your studio visit, I’ll be sharing recent and ongoing work, discussing my process, and offering insight into how these landscapes and memories inform my practice. I value the opportunity to connect with viewers in a thoughtful, unhurried setting and to talk about the ideas and techniques behind the work.
Studio visits are available by scheduled appointment only. Open time slots are listed adjacent and can be booked directly through Toureka. I look forward to welcoming you at your scheduled time and sharing my work with you.
