Capturing that WOW moment in time!
Marg Smith, an artist based in Okotoks, Alberta, is inspired by the wonder and beauty of colour in the world. She paints in oils, often using the alla prima (wet-on-wet) technique, capturing spontaneous moments in subjects ranging from landscapes and farm animals to children, pets, and florals. Deeply influenced by life in western Canada, her work reflects the vibrancy of Alberta’s people, animals, and scenery. Marg continues to refine her craft through workshops with well-known Canadian and American artists.
HAPPENING NOW!
JULY 4th – September 2nd
Members Show & Sale @ Okotoks Art Gallery

I’m excited to be part of this year’s Members Show and Sale at the Okotoks Art Gallery. The exhibition is on display in the Large Gallery through Sept. 2, giving visitors plenty of time to explore the incredible variety of artwork created by local artists.
It’s one of my favourite exhibitions because it brings together artists from across our community, each with their own unique style and perspective. Whether you’re interested in paintings, photography, sculpture, or mixed media, the show offers something for everyone while celebrating the creativity that exists right here in the Foothills.
For me, it’s always rewarding to have my work included in an exhibition like this. Creating art is a personal journey, and having the opportunity to share those pieces in a gallery setting alongside so many talented artists is incredibly meaningful. I hope people who visit the gallery this summer take the time to experience the collection, discover new local artists, and perhaps even find a piece that speaks to them.
JULY & AUGUST 2026
Art Show & Sale @ Sheep River Library

I’m honoured to be exhibiting this collection at the Sheep River Library in Turner Valley, a welcoming community space that brings together art, culture, and lifelong learning. The library provides the perfect setting to slow down, reflect, and connect with the landscapes, colours, and moments that have inspired my work. Whether you’re a longtime art enthusiast or simply curious to discover something new, I hope you’ll take the opportunity to explore the exhibition and find a painting that speaks to you or reminds you of a special place or memory.
I would also be delighted if you could join me for the Artist Reception on Saturday, August 8, at the Sheep River Library in Turner Valley. It’s a wonderful chance to meet in person, enjoy the artwork in a relaxed setting, and learn more about the inspiration, techniques, and stories behind each piece. I always enjoy connecting with visitors, answering questions, and hearing what they see and feel when they experience my paintings.
My artwork can also be found in corporate, public, and private collections throughout North America, as well as Panama, Korea, Japan, Portugal, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom. It is a privilege to share my work with collectors around the world, but there is something especially meaningful about exhibiting here at home in the Foothills and having the opportunity to share these paintings with my local community.
