Meet Marg!
It is the wonderment of colours in the world that drives Marg Smith to put brush to canvas. Rather than paint one specific subject she paints whatever captures her heart. Marg’s goal is to convey that wonder, to evoke in the viewer that same “WOW!” feeling that she gets when observing that particular moment in time.
For approximately 10 years she was the resident volunteer art therapy artist at Foothills Country Hospice. As a result, over the past several years Marg was instrumental in organizing many successful fundraising art shows for charities such as Foothills Country Hospice and Rowan House.
Marg is a contributing member to Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA), a member of the Leighton Art Centre, Mahogany Visual Artists Guild, and the Okotoks Art Gallery. She taught for many years before retiring from teaching in December 2024.
An Albertan by birth, Marg now lives in Okotoks and is captivated by the amazing sunsets, the fantastic mountains, foothills and prairie scenes in such diverse vivid conditions. Marg enjoys travelling to various places in the world and marvels at the sights and scenes that are witnessed in her travels.
Marg works in oils but has used acrylics and watercolours. She does regularly paint a la prima, but will paint certain paintings in glazes (thin layers) of oil as well.
Her art can be found in corporate, public and private collections throughout North America, Panama, Korea, Japan, Portugal, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom.
